Discipline Code

ABSENCES

Good attendance is essential for academic success.  Excused, permissive and unexcused absences are not considered discipline violations but are part of this code in an advisory capacity.  Parents and students should make use of the interventions provided. Please call the day of absence or send note the following day.

TRUANCY/Tardy

Any truancy period  or full day

Saturday School AND Parent Contact.

 

Repeated period truancy

Saturday School, Parent Conference, Attendance contract, Referral to Truancy Reduction Center. Referral to SARB,  *Progressive w/each violation

Leaving class without teacher permission.

Same as truancy

TARDY POLICY

Students are tardy if they are not in class with the appropriate learning materials when the tardy bell rings.  Any student tardy to class will be issued a tardy slip equal to 15 minutes that can be served through Saturday school or campus service opportunities. Students who are tardy 30 or more minutes will be considered truant.  Repeated tardies will be referred to their administrator for additional consequences.

CELL PHONES and electronic devices

Cell phones and electronic devices may be used ONLY during passing periods, break and lunch. If a student is observed using any electronic device that results in disruption of the instructional process, the device may be confiscated (including but not limited to cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, cameras, radios, CD/DVD and video game players).  The school does not assume liability for any device that is lost, stolen or damaged, even after it is confiscated.

CHEATING

Anyone who uses improper assistance to complete assigned work and/or tests has cheated.  Please refer to the RAHS Cheating Policy for examples of improper assistance.

Minor

Copying a word, picture or phrase (less than 10% of the work) from a classwork or homework assignment will result in a “0” on the assignment and the teacher will contact the parents.  Additional offenses will be referred to the Assistant Principal.

 

Major

Any student cheating in any class will receive “0” points for that assignment/project/quiz/test with no possibility to make-up the points.  The student will receive a “U” in Citizenship for the semester.  Saturday School will be assigned.  Parents will be contacted.  

Additional Offenses

(minor or major)

Additional cheating incidents in any class (during their time at Rancho) will result in the student receiving “0” points for that assignment/project/quiz/test with no possibility to make-up the points.  The student will receive a “U” in Citizenship for the semester.  The student may be suspended from school and required to attend a parent conference.

 

CLASS, CAMPUS AND/OR ACTIVITY MISCONDUCT/DISTURBANCE

Disrupted school activities or otherwise willfully defied the valid authority of supervisors, teachers, administrators, school officials, or other school personnel engaged in the performance of their duties.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE/DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, ALCOHOL

Unlawfully possessed, used, sold, or otherwise furnished, or been under the influence of any controlled substance, an alcoholic beverage, electronic/vapor cigarette, or an intoxicant of any kind.

 

Possession, use and/or under the influence of alcoholic beverages or controlled substances.

Suspension, counseling referral, parent contact/conference, police involvement as necessary, GGUSD Discipline Committee referral as necessary.

 

Possession or sale of drug paraphernalia.

Suspension, counseling referral, parent contact/conference, police involvement as necessary, GGUSD Discipline Committee referral as necessary

 

DEFIANCE OF STAFF MEMBER

Failure to comply with directives provided by a school official, teacher, campus aide, or any other adult in a position of authority.  This also includes failure to give proper name or to show identification.  All students are required to carry a RAHS identification card at all times…no exceptions!

 

First Offense

Saturday School or suspension, and parent contact.

 

Repeated Offenses

Suspension and/or referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and parent contact

 

DESTRUCTION/THEFT OF PROPERTY AND/OR VANDALISM/ GRAFFITI

Caused or attempted to cause damage to school property or private property, including other district schools.  Theft of school or personal property or possession of stolen school or personal property.

 

Any Offense

Saturday School, or suspension and parent contact/conference.  Referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police/fire as necessary. Restitution.

 

DISRESPECT OF STAFF MEMBER

 

Any Offense

Sat School or suspension, and parent contact. 

 

 

 


EXPLOSIVE/INCENDIARY MATERIALS (firecrackers, etc.)

Possessed, sold, or otherwise furnished an explosive device or other dangerous object, including firecrackers

 

Possession and/or use of an explosive material.

Saturday School, or suspension, parent contact/conference.  Referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee, police and/or fire department as necessary,

 

Possession of lighters, matches or incendiary devices.

Saturday School, or suspension, parent contact/conference.  Referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee, police and/or fire department as necessary.

         

 


FAILURE TO SERVE DETENTION AND/OR SATURDAY SCHOOL

Failure to serve Saturday School.

LOSS OF SENIOR PRIVILEGE, additional Saturday Schools, Alternative Classroom Environment, suspension, parent contact/conference.

FIGHTING/AIDING AND ABETING in the INFLICTION of a PHYSICAL INJURY

Caused, attempted to cause, or threatened to cause physical injury to another person, or willfully used force or violence upon another.  This may include knowingly assisting, setting up or instigating a fight, participating as a look-out, back-up or participant, or distracting/preventing adults from responding.  This also applies to filming a fight and/or disseminating footage of a fight.

First Offense

Suspension, parent contact/conference, referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary.

Additional Offenses

5-Day suspension, parent contact /conf., referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary.

MISUSE OF THE INTERNET

Please refer to the RAHS Student Internet Contract for appropriate use of Internet resources.

PHYSICAL/VERBAL/SEXUAL THREAT OR HARASSMENT AND/OR CYBERBULLYING

Intentionally engaged in harassment, threats, or intimidation directed against a pupil, group of pupils or school employee that is sufficiently severe to materially disrupt class work, create substantial disorder and invade the rights of said individual or group by creating an intimidating or hostile educational environment.  This also includes any statement, whether written or oral, by a person who willfully threatens to commit a crime which will result in death, great bodily injury to another person, or property damage.

Towards a student

Saturday School and/or suspension.  Counseling referral as necessary, referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary

Towards a staff member or a member’s property

Suspension, removal from class if applicable, referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee and/or police as necessary.

PROFANITY, OBSCENITY, VULGARITY

Non-directed

ROBBERY AND/OR EXTORTION

SKATEBOARDS, SCOOTERS, SKATES, SKATE SHOES, & BICYCLES are not to be ridden on campus at any time and should be locked up during the school day.

Confiscated and referral to assistant principal.  Item returned at the discretion of the administrator.  Parent may be required to pick up the item.

SMOKING/CHEWING TOBACCO

Possessed or used tobacco, or any products containing tobacco or nicotine products, including, but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, miniature cigars, clove cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, snuff, chew packets, and betel.

First Offense

Saturday School, and/or suspension, parent contact, and FYOP referral.

Additional Offense

Saturday School or suspension, parent contact/conference, and FYOP referral.  Referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee as necessary.

UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION OR USE OF SCHOOL DOCUMENTS

Any Offense

Saturday School, suspension, drop with “F” grade if applicable, parent contact

UNSAFE/RECKLESS DRIVING ON CAMPUS OR UNAUTHORIZED PARKING

Any Offense

Referral to assistant principal, Saturday School, possible loss of opportunity to bring vehicle onto campus.  Parent contact/conference.  Police action as necessary,

WEAPON OR REPLICA POSSESSION OR USE

Possessed, sold, or otherwise furnished any firearm, knife, explosive, or other dangerous object (including laser pointers).  A weapon is defined as an object capable of inflicting substantial bodily damage. 

NO WEAPONS OR REPLICAS ALLOWED ON CAMPUS OR AT SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Any offense will result in suspension and referral to GGUSD Discipline Committee; police action as required.  Parent contact.

 
 

MANDATORY EXPULSION OFFENSES

California state law requires that students committing any listed offense be expelled from the school district for up to one year:

· Possessing, selling or furnishing a firearm

· Brandishing a knife at another person

· Unlawfully selling a controlled substance

· Committing or attempting a sexual assault

· Possession of an explosive

· Assault or battery upon any school employee
